The Marching Wolverines of Woodland High School are stepping into the new competition season with a renewed sense of purpose, driven by their newly adopted creed. This creed, designed to unify and motivate the band, serves as an anchor during their intense and demanding practices.

For many, the life of a competitive marching band member is often misunderstood. The countless hours, physical effort, and personal sacrifice go unnoticed by the casual observer. While most teenagers spend their summers lounging by the pool, playing video games, or relaxing with friends and family, the Marching Wolverines are hard at work. Summer for them means memorizing intricate music, perfecting choreography, and mastering precise movements—critical elements that must be flawlessly executed to score high at competitions.

When the school year begins, the commitment continues. While most students head home after a long day of classes, the Marching Wolverines head outside, dedicating hours to perfecting their routines. The echoes of determination fill the practice field as Band Director Mr. Atterberry pushes the group toward excellence.

“Let’s do it again!” shouts Mr. Atterberry, as the band members quickly run back to their starting positions, ready to repeat the section. “Again, again! You can do better, I know it,” he says, his voice both encouraging and motivating. These moments of repetition and perseverance are what shape the band’s success, fueled by the Marching Wolverine Creed.

Soon, the Marching Wolverines will don their regal uniforms, ready to bring that creed to life on the field. Their creed is simple yet powerful:

"Who are we? We are Grand Champions! We are a Superior Band! We work hard as a unit! We are confident in everything we do! We are consistent, disciplined, and determined! WE ARE THE BEST BAND IN THE LAND!"

As competition season draws near, the community has an opportunity to witness this powerful creed in action. On Saturday, September 28th, Woodland High School will host the "Low Country Battle of the Bands," its very own marching band competition. Gates open at 9:00 AM, with the event kicking off at 10:00 AM. Admission is $15 in advance and $20 at the gate.

Special guests at the event will include the renowned Benedict College Marching Tiger Band of Distinction, promising a show-stopping performance.
