On Wednesday evening, April 30, Woodland High School proudly hosted the 2A Region 6 Track & Field Championship. Competing schools included Woodland, Philip Simmons, Timberland, Andrews, Academic Magnet, and Burke High School.

In front of a lively home crowd, Woodland athletes delivered impressive performances, with both the boys and girls teams securing 2nd place overall in the region.

Standout performances on the boys team included:

  • Lavonte Farray – 3rd place, 100 Meter Dash

  • Mekhi Brown – 2nd place, 400 Meter Dash and 1st place, High Jump

  • 4x100 Meter Relay Team – 2nd place

  • 4x400 Meter Relay Team – 1st place

  • Travon Tate – 3rd place, Long Jump

  • Jaemin Pinckney – 3rd place, Triple Jump

  • Michael Lewis – 3rd place, Pole Vault

  • Zishawn Majette – 1st place, Shot Put Finals

On the girls side, Woodland also had a series of podium finishes:

  • Taniya Davis – 3rd place, 100 Meter Dash; 1st place, High Jump; 2nd place, Long Jump

  • Samya Summers – 1st place, 400 Meter Dash

  • Shiann Dunning – 2nd place, 400 Meter Dash

  • Starr Masley – 3rd place, 400 Meter Hurdles

  • 4x100 Meter Relay Team – 2nd place

  • 4x400 Meter Relay Team – 1st place

  • 4x800 Meter Relay Team – 3rd place

  • Lateriah Calhoun – 2nd place, Triple Jump

  • Shamya James – 1st place, Discus

  • Michelle Green – 3rd place, Discus

  • Destini Jackson – 2nd place, Shot Put

The Wolverines showed grit, heart, and determination throughout the evening, earning respect from competitors and spectators alike. As both teams head into state-level competition, Woodland High continues to prove itself as a powerhouse in track and field.
