Unified Track team with Mr. Kiugu and Coach Ford

On Friday, May 2, the Woodland High School Unified Track & Field team competed in the Unified Lower State Championship hosted in Summerville, bringing home a 2nd place overall finish and making a powerful statement about inclusion, teamwork, and athletic excellence.

Unified sports programs bring together students with and without intellectual disabilities to train and compete on the same team, promoting friendship and respect through sport. Woodland’s Unified athletes embodied that mission with incredible performances across multiple events.

In the 100 Meter Dash, Woodland’s Ashley Lewis took 2nd place in the girls division, with Zaire Johnson close behind in 3rd. On the boys side, Landon Baker sprinted to a 1st place finish, showcasing his speed and determination.

The Shot Put competition saw two Woodland athletes take the top spot, TJ Lary earned 1st in the boys division, and Jakiya Martino dominated in the girls division, also earning 1st place.

The Wolverines also made a strong showing in the 4x100 Meter Relays. The boys relay team, Landon Baker, Kenny Hyatt, Kayden Johnson, and TJ Lary, earned a 3rd place finish. The girls team, Ashley Lewis, Kimora Reeves, Zaire Johnson, and Jakiya Martino, claimed 2nd place.

The Unified Track & Field program continues to grow in strength and spirit at Woodland High School, and the entire WHS community celebrates the dedication and teamwork of these outstanding student-athletes.
